Where is the sweet spot for a Maintenance Strategy Build?

We are regularly asked the question “Can you help us with our Maintenance build?” …. and our reply is How much do you want to do? ….

Herein lies the dilemma; “Where is the sweet spot when it comes to developing all the master data required to effectively manage your assets?”

With more than 100+ combined years of producing asset readiness strategies, we’ve learnt that you can spend too much money in the development of master data and maintenance strategies, where the same asset performance could’ve been achieved with a much lower spend.

Conversely, you can spend too little in the development of this material, and the asset/s will not achieve their desired performance.

In undertaking this work for many clients across the globe, we believe the sweet spot is achieved by utilising the process below (Figure 1).

The sweet spot is achieved by applying varied layers of filtering. This filtering drives and defines the type and extent of the build. It determines the level of effort exerted which in turn drives the overall spend.

The quality of the team building the Master Data and strategies also impacts on the spend. The more experienced and skilled the team leading and developing the build, the greater their productivity and the less rework required.

When you bring it all together and apply it at the coal face, you start to realise the benefits of achieving the sweet spot. Your focus will naturally move to the continuous improvement of your solid Master Data foundation.
