Case Study – Asset Analytics Implementation – Iron OreMajor Iron Ore Miner - WA, Australia

The Challenge
Our client was seeking to improve the reliability of their mobile assets, but was unable to complete any detailed analysis, as the downtime and fault codes were not captured in a granular enough level, or not captured at all.
Further to this, where data was captured, it did not reconcile with “real time” events and gave false performance metrics.
The Solution
Working with site personnel the team was able to effectively identify all assets, create a process map for the equipment, identify where the data would be sourced and how it would be transferred into the system, and then create a system to tie the data together that required analysis.
At the same time, the system analytics were built to provide regular reporting on the data required by site personnel.
The Results
Within 8 weeks, the team was able to develop and implement a site EPM (Enterprise Performance Management) system that was able to measure performance and analyse data to provide solutions. User training was provided for all system users and the system was handed over to site IT to manage.
The EPM system now delivers the following types of reports:
- Equipment Count, Availability, Maintenance Downtime, Available Time, On Hire Time, Off Hire Time
- Fleet types included in system: Haul, Digger, Drill, Surface Miner, Grader.
Implementation of the system over the first year of operations, was able to deliver over $4 million in savings by increased fleet availability via Root Cause Analysis.
