Case Study: Maintenance Strategy Development - CoalCoal Handling Preparation Plant - NSW, Australia

The Challenge
Our client was undertaking an asset management alignment project across all of their coal handling and preparation plants (CHPP) in order to standardise the approach taken to develop maintenance strategy.
EnterpriseIS were engaged to review the asset maintenance strategies at one of their coal handling and preparation plants in order to provide them with the company asset management framework.
The Solution
EnterpriseIS worked with the project team to review the site asset register in order to establish an effective scope of work. This initial work identified those assets that required maintenance strategy reviews and the update of associated maintenance documentation.
By working closely with site maintenance personnel and the project team, EnterpriseIS completed the failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) for all agreed assets and aligned the site maintenance strategies with corporate and operational requirements.
On acceptance of the updated maintenance strategies, the site maintenance instructions were aligned with the outcomes in the FMECA and associated ERP data changes determined for implementation.
The Results
- The project resulted in the completion of 94 FMECA and 300 work instructions
- All FMECA’s were tailored to reflect the expected operational requirements of the plant
- Site maintenance strategy aligned with the company asset management framework
- All “Non-Value” (redundant or duplicate) maintenance tactics identified were removed from the PM program
- All site work instructions were revised to align with the updated maintenance strategies
- Deficiencies in safety critical tasks were identified and added to the relevant work instructions.
