The Challenge
Our client’s operation, located in the Bowen Basin in QLD Australia, was in the early stages of installing a new long wall.
In an effort to be proactive in managing equipment performance and business risk, they sought to develop the maintenance strategy, tactics and critical spares listings to be ready for the installation.
The business understood the importance of being proactive in developing the required maintenance and spares requirements, and engaged EnterpriseIS to develop the governing processes.
The process needed to include sound methods of understanding equipment failure modes to ensure the tactics developed would support a successful long wall maintenance strategy.
The Solution
EnterpriseIS developed and documented the overall processes for developing the maintenance tactics and equipment spares strategy.
A series of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) workshops were facilitated with site personnel to develop the Maintenance strategy and tactics, with the focus being the level of criticality of the equipment in the process.
These maintenance tactics were entered into a standardised template for collation into work packages, and then loaded onto the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for use by site personnel.
The Results
- Determined the repeat, corrective maintenance tasks based on criticality
- Identified the equipment and components that will be on an ‘Operate to Fail’ strategy
- Identified critical spares requirements based on maintenance tactics and criticality
- Process mapped the ‘Operation / Maintenance’ windows available per week
- Identified the tasks for: On and Offline
- Finalised Operation/Maintenance windows
- Developed a CMMS integration plan.
