Australia well placed to deliver global critical mineral needs: Geoscience Australia Report

With the focus on the provision of resources requirements next generation energy storage technology, it was interesting to read the Geoscience Australia report on Critical Minerals.

(Critical minerals are; metals, non-metals and mineral compounds that are economically important and also subject to high risks of supply eg. Rare earth elements, cobalt, lithium, vanadium, tungsten, potash etc).

Australia has a number of significant deposits of these resources, which are identified in the map according to type of primary element.

A number of these deposits have been mined for many decades, which has enabled Australia to develop the specific skills and knowledge to be leaders in this type of mining.

This mining will also see the implementation of new technology to reduce mine site personnel, improve safety, improve yields and drive efficiencies in the longer term.

These mines and associated processing opportunities, will provide plenty of opportunities for Australian innovation and technical
leadership.
