What is an old mine good for? Well, quite a bit if it can be turned into a pumped hydro power generation plant, like the Kidston Gold Mine pumped hydro project being developed by @Genex Power. Once completed, this will be the first solar-powered pumped-hydro project in Australia, generating up to 250 MW for up to 8 hours (2,000 MWh) the local grid.
Comparatively the Tesla battery in SA produces 100MW for just over an hour (129 MWh) and Snowy Hydro (all units) produces 4100 MW for prolonged periods, dependent on which reservoir is being used (4500GMh).
A great example of Australian innovation in the renewable sector, which will add value to the local economy through the provision of reliable power generation.
