Dan & Andrew’s Road Trip through Regional Victoria
This week Dan & Andrew from the Wollongong office have been road tripping through the ACT and regional Victoria. On the way (so far) they’ve found the big trout, wild brumbies, Ned Kelly, fields of canola and taken the opportunity to pass through a number of the great small towns in the region. The trip hasn’t just been about the scenery though, as the team have been attending the Austmine regional roadshow to learn more about recent developments in the Victorian goldfields.
Yesterday the team were in Stawell to hear from the Navarre Minerals MD, Geoff McDermott, give an update on the recent exploration activities in the region. Interestingly, since the original Victorian gold rush in the 1850’s, this region has produced approx. 2400 tonnes of gold, which is equal to 32% of Australian gold production and 2% of global production.
Today, gold remains one of Australia’s top commodity exports (along with Iron Ore, Coal and Gas), which means that any development of new gold mines has the potential to add considerable value to the whole economy, and as importantly, to the rural communities around the mines. Thanks to Sheldon Varcoe & Dale Thompson from Austmine for organising this trip, we look forward to catching you in Bendigo at the next event.
