Dam Safety Management System

The Challenge

A change in state regulations resulted in an additional requirement for dam owners to document their overall management system—the approach in the new regulations aligned with ISO55001 asset management practices. While the dam owner had many elements for effective leadership, design, maintenance, and operations of their dams, they had yet to consolidate these into an overall dam safety management system.

The client asked EnterpriseIS to develop a document that best described the management of the three dams on-site before the date prescribed by the regulators.

The Solution

The project commenced with EnterpriseIS developing a document structure that met the requirements of the legislation guideline. EnterpriseIS discussed the context behind each section in detail with the client, who then supplied their own organisational, design, maintenance, and operations documents. EnterpriseIS reviewed these documents with the relevant information extracted and presented in a manner that best met the requirements in the legislation.

Over several review sessions with the client, each iteration of the document improved on the previous one until a document that best described the dam safety management systems for the dams was finalised for approval.

The Results

A high-quality Dam Safety Management system document was developed for the client one month before the date prescribed by the regulators.

EnterpriseIS identified several gaps in the dam safety management system during the development process. These were all noted as actions for follow-up and inclusion in future versions of the document.

The client is well-positioned to provide all the context and evidence to the regulator prior to and during their next audit.
