Employee Spotlight: Making a Difference Beyond the Workplace

Every day, our team supports clients to solve problems, reduce risk, improve performance and create sustainable outcomes. While that work often happens within businesses and project teams, the same mindset frequently extends beyond the workplace. 

This month we’d like to recognise Frank Soto, who recently reached an incredible milestone: 

🩸 150 blood and plasma donations. 

Frank’s donation journey began in 2009 while studying Engineering at the University of Wollongong. Encouraged by a group of friends when a mobile blood donation service visited campus, he made his first donation, not knowing it would become a lifelong commitment to helping others. 

What began as a one-time decision evolved into a habit of regular contribution. Over the years Frank expanded from blood donations to plasma donations, choosing to donate whenever he was eligible. 

The milestone is particularly significant given the current challenges facing Australia’s blood supply. Australian Red Cross Lifeblood has recently called for more than 12,000 additional donors nationwide, with winter illnesses contributing to shortages and many donation appointments remaining unfilled. 

When reflecting on what motivated him to keep donating, Frank recalls a thought that stayed with him from his early university years. 

Around the time of his first donation, a tragic local road accident prompted him to reflect on how quickly lives can change and how important it is for communities to be ready to help when emergencies occur. While we often don’t know who will ultimately benefit from a donation, every unit collected represents an opportunity to support someone during one of the most difficult moments of their life. 

That idea became a simple philosophy: 

“Even if you can’t be there in person to help, you can still do something that might help someone else.” 

While Frank openly admits he has never become entirely comfortable with needles, he continues to donate because the small inconvenience to him may have a significant impact on somebody else’s future. 

For us, this achievement represents something larger than a number. 

It reflects values that we strive to bring to every client engagement and every project: 

• Making a meaningful contribution 

• Helping others succeed 

• Taking action where we can make a difference 

• Consistently showing up and doing the right thing 

These values are central to how we work with our clients, and it’s always rewarding to see them demonstrated beyond the workplace as well.
