Case Study - Asset Management Evaluation - Water TreatmentWater Utility - NSW, Australia

The Challenge
Our client currently invests in excess of $5 million (Opex. and Capex.) annually in their Mobile Plant and Equipment to support water treatment and network operations.
To provide improved services at optimised costs to their customers, it was identified that there was an opportunity to assess the processes and methods that were employed to manage Mobile Plant and Equipment across the business in a focused improvement project.
The Solution
Utilise a 12-element Asset Management Evaluation tool aligned to ISO55001 to understand the ‘As Is’ current state business processes and operational performance. This included interviewing over 20 individuals across the organisation and gathering over 1000 answers that were validated by a detailed analysis and review of over 100 of the client’s corporate policies and 12 months performance data.
Based on the evaluation results, a series of opportunities were identified through close consultation with our client’s management team. Once agreed and validated, the improvement actions were formalised into project charters, that formed an implementation roadmap that included estimated costs, time schedules and resource requirements.
In parallel, we worked closely with client team members to develop a detailed mobile plant and equipment data specification, for implementation into their Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
The Results
Four project charters and an implementation plan that would:
- Lower business risk by identifying equipment requiring regulatory/statutory inspections
- Lower operational risk by improving equipment reliability and utilisation
- Reduce R&M Costs by 15-20% through asset strategy optimisation
- Align Asset strategies with ISO55000 standards.
