Port Operations - Operational Readiness Review

The Challenge

Our client’s port was undergoing a major works program due to a multibillion-dollar expansion in the Pilbara region. As a result, the client must clearly identify the tasks, resources and schedule required to achieve Operational Readiness Review for Phase 1 (the 2nd Out loading Circuit) of the Port Expansion project.

Identifying these requirements would enable the effective planning of the activities to ensure an efficient startup of operations on completion of Phase 1. This project was undertaken in a time-constrained environment.

The Solution

EnterpriseIS facilitated a workshop with the Port and Expansion Project Leadership team to identify and develop the required Operational Readiness Plan. The EnterpriseIS 17 Element Operational Readiness framework was used to scope the client’s requirements and formed the basis for the Operational Readiness gap analysis. This workshop covered the main steps of:

1. Operational Readiness ‘Leading Practice’ Overview

2. Assessment of Current Operational Readiness Status

3. Conduct a Gap Analysis of Current Operational Readiness

4. Develop an Action Plan to Close Identified Gaps.

The Results

• The Operational Readiness Strategy and Draft Plan were developed and agreed upon in one day

• The Operational Readiness Plan was further validated and rolled out for Phase 1 of the project

• Identification and subsequent appointment of a dedicated Commissioning Manager from the client’s site for the EPCM provider.
